A trembling gasp escaped your lips and turned into fluffy white fog, as the cold winter air surrounded you. The bright light on your cell phone's screen was the single one in the dark October streets of (place), besides the lamps lining the sidewalks.
On the small screen of your LG mobile phone was a grainy image, obviously taken with a crappy phone camera. In the photo, a tall dirty-blonde haired guy had his arms around two girls and was kissing one of them while a blurry finger blurred out a corner of the image.
Alfred, the man in the photo, was your boyfriend of five months, and today just happened to be his birthday. After you made him a homemade picnik, he told you he was leaving town to visit his grandmother. You understood, since his grandmother was very dear to him. If it was your grandmother, you would have done the same.
But in this photo, Alfred was wearing the same blue shirt he did today at your picnik. The sender of the photo was an unknown number, and it was times like these you wish you had caller id; it was painfully obvious, the situation you were in now.
After giving him your all for five months, it all ended with this?
A single tear slipped out of the side of your (eyecolor) eye. After giving him your all, you find out he's cheating on you...by a text message.
/Just hours Ago/
"Alfred...Promise me something." You turned to him on the beach blanket, a slight blush dusting your cheeks. You sat across from the blue-eyed american, fiddling with your thumbs.
"Anything, brotato chip!" He flirted in his usual bubbly way.
After hesitating, the words escaped your lips.
"Promise me you won't cheat on me?" Alfred's eyes widened, and then closed with a grin. He stuck his pinky out and linked it with yours, giving you a quirky wink.
"Why would I cheat on the perfect girl?"
You giggled. Alfred had been your boyfriend of only five months, but in those months, you had figured out who you were. The bubbly american made you feel special.
Every single thing you did was for him, and he protected you no matter what.
</i>

Your (eye color) orbs began to blur. Your fingers trembled violently as you slowly closed your flip phone and slipped it back into your jeans pocket.
Inhale, exhale.

When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
</i>

One converse foot after the other, you told yourself. Just get home and you can cry all you want.
Several people were walking down the dark streets, brown paper grocery bags in arms and some walking dogs. You were determined to stay strong; nobody would see you cry today.
You swallowed hard, and it felt like a giant lump was in your throat. Like when you're eating and you take much too big a bite-but it wouldn't go away.
Your black hoodie's sleeve made its way to your eyes and you harshly rubbed the droplets of sadness away.

Memories of your time with Alfred blurred through your mind, like a giant photo book. You constantly promising to give him your all. You actually giving him your all. Him telling you he needed to leave, when in actuality he was cheating on you.
Alfred had been your best friend since middle school, and after tenth grade, the two of you decided to take it further. Not only did you just lose your boyfriend and love of your life; you lost your best friend. The only other person you could depend on was Ludwig, but he was away visiting his brother, Gilbert.
Alfred was irreplaceable.
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
</i>
Rain began to fall. It hit everything and everyone, and the lump in your throat suddenly got bigger. Don't cry, don't cry.
After a few people made awkward eye contact with you and you realized your eyeliner and mascara was probably smearing down your face, you pulled your hood up to shield yourself from the rain.
Out of the corner of your eye you noticed a school classmate of yours, Francis, holding hands with his boyfriend, Arthur. They smiled and hid under an umbrella, protected from the falling rain.
That used to be me and Alfred.
You thought, and you felt a single fat, salty tear drip down your chin, which was beginning to tremble.
So you ran.
You ran as fast as you could, but before you could get anywhere decently far away, you bumped into something hard and flew onto the wet ground.
Pain reached your tailbone and you decided not to get up. The person probably walked away anyways, right? You hid your face in your hands and sobbed quietly, the rain soaking through the back of your pants as you sat on the sidewalk.
You looked up with your ( eye color ) eyes that were sourrounded by smeared makeup.
It was Ludwig.
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
</i>
His blonde hair that was usually slicked back was slightly askew, a few strands across his forehead. His tall build loomed over you, and he had a shocked look on his face.
Lowering himself onto one knee, he held his black umbrella over your soaked head.
"_-_______? Vat happened to you?!" You spoke quietly but harshly, and you saw the care in his eyes.
Trembling, your goose-bumped hand found it's way to your pocket, and found your cell phone. You turned it on and showed Ludwig the image that had made you into this mess.
His bright blue eyes studied the image for a moment, and then slowly widened with an angry look upon his face.
The air smelled of gasoline and rain, and you were shivering as you still sat on the cement. Hiding your face in your hands, you didn't even try to quiet the sobs anymore. You gave Alfred everything. You trusted him, and was there for him even when he was too busy and popular to be there for you.
Suddenly, you felt yourself being raised from the ground. Ludwig had you in his arms, the umbrella still high over your head.
His clear blue eyes gazed into yours with comfort you hadn't felt with Alfred, even though the pain was still fresh in your heart.

And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth
</i>

You raised your arms around Ludwig's neck, embracing his warmth and crying silently into his dark blue jacket.
"I vill alvays be here for you, _____." Memories of Alfred's broken promises ran through your mind, but you knew this was different. Ludwig's tone wasn't bubbly or half-joking- he was dead serious.
"You deserve more zan him. You are worth more than you might sink."  His eyes were soft but incredibly real.
He started walking, probably to his house. Obviously you weren't going back to Alfred's shabby old apartment that the two of you used to share.
Ludwig was warm and comforting. Like the light in the dark hole you seemed to have fallen into.

Tears stream down on your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down on your face
And I...
</i>

You heard Ludwig's umbrella close, and you slowly opened your eyes. You lifted your head off the crook between his shoulder and neck and looked into the sky. It was a warm, comforting pink-purple color, a sunset. And high up above, beyond the dark clouds, a magnificent rainbow spread across the sky above your heads.

You then realized Ludwig had been there for you. Always had been. Unlike Alfred, you had left you in an uncomfortable trance.

After every storm, there will be a beautiful rainbow. A rainbow to reassure you that everything will end up alright.
You lifted your head weakly, and gently met your lips to Ludwig's, tears streaming down your face. But they weren't sad tears; they were reassured tears.

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones...
</i>

You broke the kiss gently and wrapped your arms around him. Germany. Ludwig. Your savior.
Throughout the day, you had been in fake love, been crushed, and then been freed by the one who truly loved you. The one who you truly loved back
"_-_____... I may not be the man of your dreams..but..." Ludwig stuttered, closing his eyes, and then opening them. His blue orbs stared right into your /color/ ones.
His hair was still askew from the rain. You held your breath nervously, wondering what would come next.
He hesitated, and then spoke in a clear voice.

"I will try to fix you."

Based on the song Fix You by Coldplay.
